Blazing Swan can be physically and mentally demanding. Heat, exhaustion, dehydration, lack of sleep and alcohol or other drug use can all affect how someone feels and behaves.

If someone appears unwell or distressed:

  • Check in. Approach calmly and ask if they're okay.

  • Stay with them. If it's safe to do so, don't leave someone who is seriously unwell, confused or unable to look after themselves alone.

  • Get help early. Contact the Medical Team or a Ranger if someone needs assistance.

  • Respect their dignity. Be calm, supportive and non-judgemental. Avoid drawing unnecessary attention to someone who is struggling.

  • Escalate emergencies. If someone is unconscious, having difficulty breathing, experiencing a seizure or otherwise appears to be in immediate danger, call 000 and get medical assistance immediately.

You don't need to diagnose what's wrong or manage the situation yourself. Getting the right help is what matters.
