Fire art, or art that is burnt can be an incredible part of Blazing Swan, but it comes with additional risks in our dry bushland environment.

All fire art must be approved by Blazing Swan before the Event. This includes artworks involving open flames, burning materials or other fire effects. Approval must be obtained before bringing or operating fire art on site.

  • Get approval first: All fire art must be declared and approved before the Event. Do not assume approval will be granted on arrival.

  • Follow Fire Crew instructions: Approved fire art must comply with all safety requirements and instructions from the Fire Crew.

  • Be prepared: Artists must provide appropriate fire safety equipment and have a clear plan for managing risks, including emergency shutdown.

  • No unauthorised burning: Do not ignite, burn or operate fire art without the required approval and permission from the Fire Crew.

  • Respect fire restrictions: Fire bans and site-wide restrictions always apply. Approval for an artwork does not override these restrictions.

If you are planning to bring fire art to Blazing Swan, contact the relevant Art or Fire Crew team well before the Event to discuss your plans and approval requirements. You can read more here

Watching Fire Art

Fire art can be spectacular to watch, but please keep safety in mind when enjoying it.

  • Keep your distance: Stay behind any barriers or designated safety zones and follow instructions from the Fire Crew, Rangers or Event Team.

  • Keep access clear: Don't block paths, emergency access routes or the space around an artwork.

  • Follow instructions: Fire Crew members may ask you to move back, leave an area or stop watching. Please do so promptly.

  • Stay alert: Fire art can involve unexpected movement, heat, sparks or changes in conditions. Keep an eye on what's happening around you.

  • Don't touch or interfere: Never touch, move or attempt to operate fire art, fuel, equipment or safety gear.

If a Fire Crew member tells you to move back, move back. You can enjoy the spectacle without becoming part of the emergency plan.
