Accessibility Crew

Blazing Swan should be an experience that as many people as possible can participate in.

The Accessibility Crew helps identify and reduce barriers that may prevent people from taking part in the event - be it participants, volunteers, theme camp teams.

Accessibility isn't about creating a separate experience. It's about making it possible for people with different needs to participate in the same community.

What Does the Accessibility Crew Do?

The Accessibility Crew helps participants navigate accessibility at Blazing Swan.

Depending on the role, this may include:

  • Helping participants understand available accessibility services

  • Supporting people with accessibility-related questions or concerns

  • Identifying barriers across the event

  • Working with other departments to improve accessibility

  • Helping communicate accessibility information before and during the event

  • Advocating for practical solutions that make participation easier

Some accessibility needs are visible. Many aren't.

The team approaches each person as an individual and listens to what they need.

Accessibility Is Everyone's Responsibility

The Accessibility Crew can help, but creating an accessible community isn't the job of one department.

It means thinking about how we build, communicate, move around the site, run activities, and interact with one another.

Small changes can make a big difference.

We are all responsible for trying to make our efforts and gifts inclusive and accessbile to as many of our community as possible.

Is This Crew for You?

Accessibility work requires empathy, patience, good communication, and a willingness to listen.

You don't need to have lived experience of every accessibility need, but you do need to be open-minded, respectful, willing to learn, and committed to finding practical ways to reduce barriers.

Radical inclusion is one of our 11 principles, because a community is stronger when more people are able to participate in it.

If you'd like to help make Blazing Swan more welcoming and accessible for everyone, the Accessibility Crew could be for you.
