MOOP Troupe

The event may be over, but the work isn't finished.

MOOP - or Matter Out Of Place - is anything that doesn't belong on the ground. A cable tie, bottle cap, cigarette butt, feather, piece of glitter, or something much larger. Every piece matters.

While Leave No Trace is the responsibility of every participant, the MOOP Troupe plays a vital role in helping ensure Blazing Swan leaves the site as clean as possible. In fact our aim is to leave the paddock cleaner than when we arrived.

What Do the MOOP Troupe Do?

The MOOP Troupe helps inspect and restore the event site during and after Blazing Swan.

This can include:

  • Conducting MOOP sweeps across the site

  • Identifying areas that need additional attention

  • Supporting camps and participants with Leave No Trace

  • Collecting and removing Matter Out Of Place

  • Helping restore the land after the event

It's a simple idea with an important purpose: when we leave, there should be as little evidence as possible that thousands of people were ever there.

Every Piece Counts

MOOP isn't always obvious.

Some of the most common items found during site sweeps are small enough to easily miss, which is why attention to detail matters. The work can be repetitive, dusty, and occasionally surprising - but it's essential to the future of the event.

Blazing Swan relies on the continued support of the landowners and local community. Leaving the site in excellent condition is one of the ways we demonstrate our respect and ensure we can continue to return.

Join the MOOP Troupe

If you've got a good eye, don't mind getting dusty, can stay behind after the event has ended and believe that leaving no trace means exactly that, the MOOP Troupe needs you.

Help us make the temporary city disappear without a trace, as we do our part to help leave the paddock cleaner than when we arrived.
